How do I see what items are for sale?

Go to the Auctions page and click the red Details button on one of the current auctions. You will then get some details about that auction. On that page is the catalogue search box. To see all the lots in the auction just click the Display Catalogue button. This will show you all the lots split over several pages.

What if I'm looking for particular types of items?

Go to the Auctions page and click the grey Details button on one of the current auctions. You will then get some details about that auction. On that page is the catalogue search box. The catalogue search box contains three places where you can select particular lots.

The drop down list labelled Select Key Words contains a list of key words for the lots. If you select a key word only lots that match that key word will be displayed when you click the Display Catalogue button.

The drop down list labelled Select Category contains a list of basic categories for the lots. If you select a category only lots fall into that category will be displayed when you click the Display Catalogue button.

The box labelled Enter words to search for allows you to do a text search. If you enter a word in the box before clicking Display Catalogue only lots that have that word somewhere in their description will be displayed. If you enter more than one word only lots that have all the words in their description will be displayed.

The check box labelled Show only lots with pictures allows you to view only lots which have a picture. If the box is ticked clicking Display Catalogue will only display lots that have an illustration.

You can use the key words, categories, the text search and the pictures only check box in any combination. For example, if you select a keyword and enter a word to search for the only lots that will be displayed are those which match the key word and have the search word in their description.

Can I get more information about a lot?

Some of the lots have pictures. If a Picture button is displayed under the bid button a picture is available on line and you may click the button to see it. For other lots please contact us and we can supply more information and possibly send a photocopy.

I've found an item I like, how can I bid for it?

Next to each lot displayed is a Bid button. Clicking on this button will pop up a small window that you can type your bid into. The bid you enter should be in pounds sterling (£) and is the maximum amount you are prepared to bid. After entering a value click Save. Clicking save does not send your bid yet! See how to send bids below.

You can make bids on more than one lot by clicking on another Bid button. All your bids are stored until you send them. You can even log off and come back later; your bids are stored in "cookies" on your local disc.

How do I send my bids to you?

To send your bids you need to display the Bid Form you can do this either by clicking on Save & Send instead of Save after making a bid, or by clicking on the Your Bids option in the menu on the left of the screen.

The Bid Form displays all your bids and has fields to fill in with your contact details so that we can get in touch with you.

When you have entered all your contact details click the Send button and your bids will be e-mailed to us.

After pressing send your bids are deleted from your list and you cannot change your bids without contacting us by phone, fax or e-mail.

How can I see what bids I've already entered?

Display the Bid Form, you can do this either by clicking on Save & Send instead of Save after making a bid, or by clicking on the Your Bids option in the menu on the left of the screen.

How can I change the amount I want to bid for a lot?

Display the Bid Form, you can do this either by clicking on Save & Send instead of Save after making a bid, or by clicking on the Your Bids option in the menu on the left of the screen.

This will list all the bids you have entered so far, you can then click in the appropriate field and type in a new value.

You can then click on the Return button to return to the site and make more bids or the Send button to send your bids to us.

How can I delete a bid that I've already made?

Display the Bid Form, you can do this either by clicking on Save & Send instead of Save after making a bid, or by clicking on the Your Bids option in the menu on the left of the screen.

This will list all the bids you have entered so far. By each bid is a delete check box, click on the boxes of the bids you want to delete so that the box contains a mark and then click on the Delete button. The form will be redisplayed with those bids removed.

You can then click on the Return button to return to the site and make more bids or the Send button to send your bids to us.

Will I always bid the amount that I specify?

Not necessarily, the amount you enter is the maximum amount you are prepared to bid. During the auction we will make bids for you up to that amount. If there is no one else bidding for the lot the amount you pay (the hammer price) may be a lot less.

But don't forget you will also need to pay the buyer's premium and possibly V.A.T. in addition to the bid value.

What is the minimum bid you will accept?

Items are very rarely sold for less than two thirds (2/3) of the lower estimated value.

How much will I actually have to pay?

You will obviously have to pay the amount that the lot was sold for (the hammer price). In addition you will be charged an additional 18.80% buyer's premium. V.A.T. is chargeable on this sum making the total premium 18.80% including V.A.T.

Full details can be found in the Terms and Conditions of Sale.

What is V.A.T. and will I be charged it?

V.A.T. stands for Value Added Tax and is a sales tax charged throughout the European Union. V.A.T. will be charged on the buyer's premium unless you are resident outside of the European Union or the goods are zero rated, e.g. books.

Certain lots will also have V.A.T. charged on the hammer price. these lots are clearly marked in the on-line catalogue as "VAT on hammer price: Yes" and with an asterisk after the lot number in the printed catalogues. Again buyers resident outside the European Union are exempt from V.A.T.

Full details can be found in the Terms and Conditions of Sale.

How do I pay you?

We can accept payments by cash; bankers draft; cheques guaranteed by the bank on which they are drawn; Switch, Delta, Connect and Solo debit cards and credit cards. Payment by credit cards attracts a 3% surcharge.

We are sorry but we cannot accept American Express cards.

Full details can be found in the Terms and Conditions of Sale.

Can I submit bids in any other ways?

Yes, we will also accept bids by phone, fax or post. details are given on the Buying page.

How are items that I have bought delivered?

Lots will normally be posted to you via an appropriate service. Postage and packing charges will be made and these charges will be subject to V.A.T. at a rate of 17.5%. If you wish to make alternative arrangements please contact us.

We are constantly travelling within the UK and parts of Europe and it may be possible to arrange to deliver bulky or heavy items directly to you. Please contact us to see if this is possible.

Full details can be found in the Terms and Conditions of Sale.

How can I find out the results of an auction?

Unfortunately due to administrative problems the results of our sales are not available on the web site.

However for all auctions, except sporting memorabilia, a results sheet is included with the next printed catalogue.
