If you’re in the market for a child car seat, you could do worse than to consider the Graco Nautilus 3- in 1. Perhaps your child has outgrown his or her current car seat and you’re looking for a good fit? Or perhaps your child is still young and you’re looking to make one purchase which will fit for years to come? Let’s have a closer look at the Graco Nautilus as featured by Baby Shop.
So what’s it like?
Perhaps the first question to ask would be – what’s the ‘3 in 1’ all about? The Graco Nautilus is billed as ‘the last car seat you’ll buy’ – and possibly the only one as it can be converted to fit three different sizes, for very young toddlers right up until your child no longer requires a special seat.
How long will it last my child?
Let’s look at the specifications. This forward-facing seat is suitable for children who weigh between 20 and 100 pounds (that’s roughly ten to forty-five kilos), and who measure between 27 and 57 inches (about 69 to 145cm). So, as you can see, your child will be pretty big by the time he or she has outgrown this car seat!
The seat uses a five-point harness to secure your child and has an extendable headrest to prevent your child from slumping as they slumber. As your child grows, you’ll appreciate the higher harness slots and further extension of the headrest.
The mesh fabric used will not heat up if your car is left in sunlight. And while this seat has a steel-reinforced frame, it has been approved by the FAA for in-flight use.
What I like about it
The Grauco Nautilus 3 in 1 is study and easy to install. The material has memory foam-like properties so once your child is securely fastened in, there shouldn’t be too much shifting and fidgeting around. Your child should be comfortable pretty much straight away.
Another great feature is the cup-holder which is attached. Put a sealed plastic bottle there with a straw and your child will be able to stay hydrated with both hands free (important for kids who love to play with iPads in the car) and you won’t have to worry about any spillages in the back seat. There are also a couple of pockets in which your child can keep his or her toys, tissues or wipes.
The last great benefit will be of interest to those who know how difficult it can be to get a child to stay sleeping on a plane. Because you can take this seat on the plane, your child will instantly be comfortable in their familiar seat, allowing you to relax and enjoy the flight.
What I am not so keen on
A number of customers have complained about the crotch-strap, which is not adjustable and quite close to the back of the seat. Some customers have said that it is too close to the back of the seat and has theft their child feeling uncomfortable in the seat.
The seat itself is a bit heavier than similar seats, due its sturdiness, therefore you’ll have to be careful when carrying other heavy loads in your car.
To sum up
I have mentioned the crotch strap issue above, nonetheless, at the time of writing this review, almost 4000 customers on Amazon rated the chair with 4.5 stars out of 5, so that is highly encouraging. The fact that you can buy one chair which will fit your child all the way through until he or she no longer needs a child seat is what really sells the Graco Nautlis 3 in 1 to me. I hope this review has been useful and I look forward to hearing your feedback!
